Investigation Giant Placental Chorioangioma Associated with Neonatal Sepsis-like Disease: A Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Giant chorioangioma is a placental tumor associated with gestational complications such as preeclampsia, polyhydramnios and hemorrhage. In addition, this tumor might lead to the incidence of non-immune fetal hydrops, heart failure, anemia, thrombocytopenia, weight loss and death among neonates. In this case report, the clinical image of a term newborn (weighing 2800 g) with one-minute Apgar score of 7 was suggestive of sepsis on the second day of birth. Moreover, epistaxis, petechia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, hypothermia, cardiomegaly and hepatosplenomegaly were detected in the neonate, which required blood transfusion and antibiotic therapy. However, in case of chorioangioma in the gestational history, it was possible to detect the motive for a clinical sepsis-like disease. According to the pathophysiological explanation, this tumor functions as a "dead space", increasing the rate of blood ejection with subsequent fetal heart failure, anemia through intratumoral hemorrhage or fetal-maternal transfusion, and consumption or intratumoral sequestration resulting in disseminated intravascular coagulation. After blood transfusion, all treatment procedures, including antibiotic therapy, were suspended due to the recovery of the newborn.

متن کاملGiant chorioangioma of placenta: an infrequent placental cause for adverse feto-maternal outcome
Chorioangioma is a relatively rare benign tumor of placenta arising from chorionic tissue, with incidence being 1 in 100 cases. Giant vascular chorioangiomas render a challenge to obstetricians with their potential critical complications adversely altering feto-maternal outcome. Diagnosis is suspected antenatally by ultrasound and Doppler studies, and is corroborated by histopathology post-deli...
متن کاملRapid evolution of placental chorioangioma: natural progression and outcome.
Placental chorioangioma is a benign vascular tumor most frequently diagnosed in the second trimester of pregnancy by sonographic and Doppler evaluation. The course of the tumor may be totally indolent, with minimal to no maternal and fetal consequences, or it may also lead to premature labor, intrauterine growth restriction, hydrops fetalis, and high-output fetal heart failure, which may be due...
متن کاملPrenatal Diagnosis and Fetomaternal Outcomes of Two Cases with Placental Chorioangioma
Placental chorioangiomas greater than 4 cm in diameter are rare placental tumors. They have adverse fetomaternal outcomes. We present our experience with two cases having a giant angioma and review the relevant literature.
متن کاملAntenatal embolization of a large placental chorioangioma: a case report
INTRODUCTION A chorioangioma is the most common benign tumor of the placenta. The majority of pregnancies with chorioangiomas are asymptomatic. Pregnancies with large chorioangiomas are associated with maternal and fetal complications, such as growth restriction, cardiomegaly, congestive heart failure, fetal anemia, thrombocytopenia, nonimmune hydrops and intrauterine fetal death. There are sev...
